What is When I Croak?

When I Croak is a private map of where everything in your life is — every account, policy, property, digital account and contact — with instructions for the people left behind. It never stores account numbers, passwords or Social Security numbers. Every plan includes The Guide, an AI companion that walks your family through the first days after a death.

What is the difference between a map and a vault?

A vault stores the things themselves: documents, passwords, account numbers. A map records where those things are and who to contact. When I Croak is a map. Your password manager and safe deposit box remain the vault.

What is The Guide?

The Guide is an AI companion included on every plan. When your family activates your map, it speaks first — telling them what matters today, drafting the calls and letters they need with the real names and numbers from your map, and telling them when they have done enough for the day.

What is the 48-Hour Test?

A free two-minute, eight-question test that scores how much of your financial and personal life your family could find in the first 48 hours after a death, and lists the specific gaps.

How does my family get access?

You choose trusted contacts when you build your map. When the time comes, the map is activated and those contacts — after enabling two-factor authentication — get secure access to everything you documented, plus The Guide.

Is my information secure?

Data is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.3. Every trusted contact must use multi-factor authentication. Infrastructure runs on SOC 2 Type II certified providers, and the company carries cyber-liability insurance. Most importantly, the map never contains account numbers, passwords or Social Security numbers.

How much does When I Croak cost?

Every plan is $77 to build, plus a monthly fee that is locked for life: $3.99 for The Map, $6.99 for The Living Map, $9.99 for The Legacy. Every plan includes The Guide. The setup fee is non-refundable; the monthly can be cancelled anytime.

Can I buy it for my parents?

Yes. Choose a plan, add their email and a note, and they receive an invitation to build their map at their own pace. You get a family login only when they grant it.

What happens to my map if I stop paying?

Your map drops down to The Map plan. Nothing is deleted. Family logins, annual audits and Legacy features pause until you resume.

Who built When I Croak?

Jason Caras, a Tampa, Florida entrepreneur, after his best friend Frank Clark died and Jason spent months reconstructing Frank's financial life for the family. The product's guide persona, Mr. Orange, is named for Frank.
