Our Story — When I Croak

TWO STORIES.
ONE PROMISE.

A pool table covered in paperwork. A hospital bed at 4 a.m. This is why When I Croak exists — told the way it happened, by the person who lived it.

THIS WAS BUILT
FOR FRANK'S
FAMILY.

My best friend Frank Clark — a.k.a. Mr. Orange — was one of those rare souls who made everyone around him feel important. A successful entrepreneur. A devoted father. A genuinely good human being.

Then one day, suddenly, he was gone.

I loved him. So when his family needed help, I showed up. And what I found stopped me cold.

Frank had built a full life — businesses, investments, insurance policies, accounts at a dozen different institutions. None of it was organized. I spent weeks sifting through every piece of it. I covered an entire pool table — end to end — with stacks of paper, computers, cell phones, and files, just trying to make sense of his life.

In all that chaos, I found life insurance policies his kids never would have known existed. Because someone refused to stop looking, they got what their dad meant for them to have.

But here's what haunts me — if his family hadn't had me, they would have spent the time they should have been mourning their father in desperation instead of grief. Doing my job, when all they wanted was to say goodbye.

Nobody should ever have to do that for someone they love.

So I built it. For them.

Don't make your family choose between mourning you and finding what you left for them.

THEN I NEEDED IT
MYSELF.

A month ago, my hemoglobin was a healthy 15. Then E. coli toxin attacked my body. By the time the ambulance got me to the hospital, I had lost more than half my blood. I needed transfusions just to stay alive.

At 3 a.m., they woke me with another low reading. The numbers kept dropping. For the first time in my life, I was certain I wasn't going home.

At 4 a.m., crying my eyes out, I tried to record videos for Duke and the kids. I tried to explain my computer logins. My filing system. My businesses. My five different email accounts. I tried to leave them a map.

And here's what I learned: 4 a.m. terrified is not when you do this work.

The videos came out broken. The plans were full of holes. Even in the app I built for Frank's family — there were gaps I never saw until I was the one facing them.

I'm the one who runs our household. The bills. The taxes. The folder system that only I understand. If something had happened to me that night, Duke would have been locked out of the operational rhythm of our entire life.

That's when I knew it had to be more.

This product was built twice. First for Frank's family, after weeks at that pool table. Then finished from a hospital bed where I wasn't sure I'd see my own family again.

Frank's story showed me families need a map.

My hospital bed showed me what the map was still missing.

When I Croak is built from both.

It's not just a map of your money. It's a map of your whole life.
